雑誌

The other day I was at Mitsuwa and as always I picked up a few magazines (even though I can’t really read them) from Sanseido.

Nail Up! (Far Right)

I keep looking for the magazine’s website, but I can’t seem to track it down although I found several posts regarding it.

Back Issues

This is a really amazing magazine that features stunning nail art.  Most of the designs have little step by step directions so even though I have no clue what some of the directions say, they are still very easy to follow.  They also don’t say use THIS EXPENSIVE BRAND, rather they show color suggestions and art suggestions, such as glitters and decals.  They also have pedicure suggestions, which makes me wish I had inch long toenails.  From what I gather is that you actually paint and decorate a set of false nails and then apply them, wearing them for special occasions.  I’m really quite anxious to see if I can find myself some fakes to get started!

Layers (Center)

Layers is a cosplay magazine devoted to creative costuming and makeup. While I’m generally not all that into cosplay myself, that is I don’t dress up, I am very into costuming and creative design.  I loved both the makeup tutorials as well as the costume suggestions this magazine is full of! Perhaps most exciting about this magazine is there are tutorials for both male and female characters.  And I find it hard to resist boys in makeup.

Kera (Far Left)

Kera is an amazing Japanese punk magazine that I’ve been following forever.  In recent years there has been an increase in Goth and Goth Loli tutorials and fashion, but it remains mostly dedicated to alt and alt fashion. I was hoping to find a Kera Maniax, which actually has fashion DIYs and patterns, but it was sold out.  Thankfully the amazing ladies in the book shop added me to the hold list and will call me now when all of my magazines arrive from Japan!

  1. Cool! The Layers mag looks awesome! I love seeing step by step makeup

  2. SWEET, I can still get Nail Up! Do you know if they carry Nail Venus and Nail Max too?

    • They might, but I’ve never been lucky enough to run across them. There is a LINE UP of woman at the door waiting for them to open on ‘release’ mornings when they stock the latest months magazines and I have never had the patience.

      I might call and ask…

  3. I love Japanese fashion/beauty magazines!

  4. All three of those magazines look incredible. I wonder if I could find them anywhere near me.

  5. Wow….I had never heard of this shop, but it sounds right up my alley, so i clicked the link only to find one in NJ relatively close to me….so thanks! I’ll be making a trek there this weekend. The Cosplay makeup and Nail ones look particularly promising.

  6. Though I’m not a fan of nail art (I have no patience to paint my nails), the other 2 magazines sound lovely! 🙂
    So cute!
There’s a japanese neighborhood in São Paulo that has tons of magazines/book stores, so I might go there check if I can find them! 🙂

  7. Oh, KERA, how do I love thee ❤
I cried when Asahiya left Mitsuwa; the ladies there were the BEST and would special order my manga even after they stopped officially carrying it on the shelves. They even called me a few times when new Malice Mizer stuff came in. I'm going to have to check out Sanseido next week when I'm down there again (I went to LT yesterday to buy fresh red bean pancakes NOM NOM NOM) XD

  8. Wow, MOARPLZ.

I really enjoyed this post 🙂 (and it’s interesting to see the influx and change of the structure of commenters).
